President David Ellis welcomed members, and guests to the club meeting this evening; with a special welcome to our speaker tonight Ms Ciara Cooney from Inclusion Solutions. President David noted that Ciara had recently become a Rotarian at the new Rotary Club of Beaufort.

President David invited members and guests to sing the anthem.

There are 21 apologies and leave of absence for this evening and we are expecting 37 members in attendance.

Kevin Jackson introduced his friend Laurie Hegbold.

Tom Kendall advised members his operation almost 4 weeks ago has gone very well up to this stage, with no evidence being found of cancer in the lymph system or elsewhere than the prostate.  Tom expressed his great appreciation to the many members who had shared their own experiences with him.  That generosity had made it much easier to make decisions quickly, without disruption to work or family, and without mental anguish. The advice and support of Dalkeith Rotary Club members had turned what might otherwise appear as a major life decision into something very straightforward.

Birthdays and Anniversaries: Bob Davis announced the only birthday as that of member Richard Ranshaw on Thusday 6^th.

Charitable Trust (Russell Hawkins): No Charitable Trust report

Russell advised members he currently has 6 cases of red and 4 cases of white.

Club Secretary’s Report (Craig James): Craig announced the highlights of the Board meeting last week.

Club Treasurer’s Report (Anthony McGrath): No report

Club Service: (John Bolto / John Murdoch): There will be a committee meeting this Thursday at Little Way. Christmas Cocktails are on Saturday 8^th at President David’s house and Cupid Catering will provide food.  Cost is $50 / head.

Richard Ranshaw asked for volunteers and was rewarded with two members to act as registrars on the night. Richard characteristically invited more fruit cake orders.

Community Service: (Nigel Johnson/Steve Halbert):

Nigel gave a Cans for Christmas update and requested number of pick-ups in each street (current estimates based upon 15%) so that information can be updated.

 

Vocational Service: (Peter Marfleet/Tom Kendall):  no report

Foundation and International Service: (Peter Webb/David Smith): no report

Membership: (Peter Panek/Lindsay Dry):

Peter advised that membership had gained 3, but lost 2, in the first half year.

Youth: (Kim Smith/Leon Lorenzen):  Kim advised that the Science and Engineering Challenge had won an award for outstanding collaboration and community engagement.  Peter Smith has indicated that Dalkeith Primary school may be interested in an EarlyAct engagement with Rotary.

Public relations: (Kevin Jackson/Jon Steward/John Thornton):

Kevin drew member’s attention to the ADFAS flyer on each table.  This series of lectures at the Central TAFE in Northbridge next year are also promoted on the web at www.adfas.org.au/societies/western-australia/perth/  for those interested in further information.

Kevin reminded members to let him know when there are club achievements that he can publicise through the Post.

Men’s Shed: (Trevor Gorey):

Trevor foreshadowed a cycle ride from Mandurah to Perth with the objective of raising $7,000 for men’s health and Sheds next year. He advised that Business Plans and Budgets have been prepared for Lotterywest applications for the Claremont Shed and flyers were on the table for expressions of interest to become Claremont Shed members.

In the absence of the Treasurer Trevor advised members that our auditors, Butler Settineri had donated $3,160 to the club which drew applause and appreciation.

Sergeant: Sergeant Trevor Gorey with Corporal Jock Laurie.

The Sergeant commenced with a levy on the wine table and a celebration of Richard Ranshaw’s birthday. Tom Langley celebrated 10 years a Rotarian and John Bolto 5 years. Tom Kendall celebrated a missing tie and retrospective Rotarty anniversaries. Anita was levied for negotiating her entry this evening using her parking money and Kevin Jackson paid Australian re-entry tax. Chris Cole celebrated a great round of golf and Laurie Hegbold an even better round.

Ciara Cooney explained to members that Inclusion Solutions, launched in 2016, is a social enterprise that supports the objective of inclusion for people with disabilities.

Inclusion Solutions works to facilitate and influence individuals and communities on the benefits of social inclusion; and to develop programs that connect people who are socially excluded or isolated with their own communities.

Inclusion Solutions works with governments, community groups and businesses of all sizes to achieve inclusive outcomes. This is achieved by providing training and mentoring services and with networking.

The Rotary Employment project has so far achieved employment for 12 people and Ciara gave some general examples of the types of employment and win-win outcomes being achieved.
