Member Information Night
President Anthony McGrath opened the meeting at 6.30 pm on 14 June 2021.
 
In the absence of John Thornton members struggled with the singing of Advance Australia Fair.
 
WELCOME to our Guest:
We welcome  Mr  Song Ng, a guest of Peter Smith.
 
ATTENDANCE:
With 19 apologies and Honorary, 9 LOA plus 1 guest, we have 36 people in attendance tonight.
 
QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
What is the area of focus for Rotary this month?
After several drawn cards had no response John MacKinnon correctly answered “Rotary Fellowships Month”.
 
FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
John Murdoch advised that Carolyn had been awarded a Certificate of Botanical Merit for her painting of WA kangaroo paws in the Society of Botanical Artists Plantae Exhibition.
Win Jones has visited Brian English in hospital.
Peter Robertson is an apology due to a family illness.

Rotary Club of Crawley hosted a very enjoyable Blue Sky weekend trip to Karratha. 96 travellers went on a harbour cruise, visited National Parks, Cossack and Port Samson. Future trips are planned.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:   (Anthony McGrath)
  1. Club Committees are the heart and soul of the Club, and where the work is actually done. Over the next week, we will confirm with every member to which Committee you will be asked to serve. If you have specific ideas or want a change please speak with Anthony or Jason.
  2. Rotary International Conference is currently taking place virtually from 12 – 16 June 2021.
  3. Paul Napper is collecting sleeping bags to give to homeless people. Please support him in this endeavour. Already he has had great support from Steve Halbert and his business.
  4. Rotary Down Under Magazine – June edition is out now. It is always a good read hence I commend it to you.
 
MEMBER INDUCTION:   (Anthony McGrath)
It gives us great pleasure to induct Susan Watson as a member of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith. John Bolto carried out the induction protocols. Susan will serve in the classification of ‘Volunteer’ and is assigned to the International Service Committee.
 
SERGEANT’S  SESSION  :  (  Graeme Sansom  )    
Anthony McGrath for poor leadership of last week’s singing of the National Anthem – flat and out of tune.
Old Haleians (Johnson, Humphrey & Laurie), for their old school losing to Scotch College in the football.
Russell Hawkins for not being mentioned in the QB list.
David Miller for the increase in value of his Cottesloe property.
Dockers supporters.
The Sergeant himself, as his wife bought a new Volvo.
Kent Warburton for trying to buy popcorn with a dodgy credit card.
John Lindquist for not filling John Martin’s freezer with freshly caught fish.
Pek Goh for getting lost driving home from last week’s meeting.
Lindsay Dry for recent absence.
Albert Deda for resembling Kamahl.

SPEAKERS: (Information Night)
 
Russell Hawkins – The Rotary Club of Dalkeith Charitable Trust
Russell gave a short history and operation of the Trust since 2008. Assets now approaching the current target of $1M. Contributions are tax-deductible.
Leon Lorenzen – Financial Information of The Rotary Club of Dalkeith
Leon presented details of the current status, with details of the past year: Income $95K, expenditure $23K, donations $62K. $10K in the bank. Next year’s subs will rise to $320.
Craig James – Australian Rotary Health
Deferred to a later meeting.
