President John Bolto welcomed Rotarians.
It was with much sadness that Pres John announced the death of Foundation Members Mr Ian Ritchie, who died on Friday night after battling a long illness. Details of his funeral will be emailed to members but briefly, his service will be held this Friday afternoon at 12:30 pm in the Norfolk Chapel, Karrakatta and then back to the Nedlands Golf Club to remember good times.
A period of silence was observed to remember Ian.

Club Announcements:
Charitable Trust: (Russell Hawkins):
The trust met last week. It is very strong with over $800k in capital reserves. The Board is considering worthwhile causes to support. Russell thanked the overwhelming generosity of RCD members who have continued to support the Trust.
Also, he has 5 cases of Chardonnay & 4 of Shiraz available. Get in quickly because it may the last for a while as it is hard to source quality at these low prices.

Club Treasurer’s Report (Leon Lorenzen):
An EFT machine is now available at the front desk to enable dinner fee payment by card. He will provide training to all that require it and has a printed sheet with the machine. It is very easy to use, don’t be afraid!
Members Attendance: 42 members at 71% attendance rate. Total of 46 for dinner.

Committee Reports and Announcements:
Club Service: (Anthony McGrath)
- Guess who is Coming to Dinner is on 31st August 2019 - a non-AFL weekend. Please consider attending. I would love one or two people to put their hand up to host.
Community Service: (Tim Humphry)
The committee held its meeting with strong attendance. The first activity will be the Coin Collection. However. the most important will be the Cans for Xmas which the District is looking to introduce too many more clubs. Hence there is work to do as a result of this.
Vocational Service: (Michael Bisset):
They had their first meeting tonight. Once Michael knows which way is up, he will let us know what is happening.
Foundation and International Service: (Peter Webb):
A great meeting was held last week. A number of international projects are being considered. The committee will work through these in a proper manner and report.
Public Image: (Kevin Jackson):

- The Men’s Shed is open from 1 pm - please come down, you don’t have to do anything just have a look. Waiting on a LotteryWest grant but things are coming along very nicely.

- Hasn’t heard about Probus Chair as yet.
- We have the Hamburg videos and they will be made available shortly.
- Rotary Leadership workshops will be held on 15/9, 6/10 & 20/10. Please consider attending as it provides more depth to your Rotary journey.
- Rotary is providing a History of Rotary in Oceania (1921 to 2021). This obviously includes Australia. Please consider submitting images or other stuff. John Lindquist to think through if RCD has anything of relevance to contribute.

Presentation, Guest Speakers & Club Forum:
Vocational Excellence Award;

Chris Cole introduced Mark Zuvela who is the President of the Fremantle Sea Rescue organisation. In WA there are 39 sea rescue organisations and they carry out 1800 rescues a year. Fremantle Sea Rescue does 600 of these a year! The organisation operates every day of the year and is fully run by an army of 126 trained volunteers. They handle 30,000 radio calls pa. They cover an area 60nm out the back of Rotto.
RCD did a site visit there last year and was extremely impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the volunteers. Mark has been with them since 2012 and has risen through the ranks to become president.

He is a Registered Architect and works with Silver Thomas & Hanley who specialises in Health Care facilities. He is interested in cars, bikes and of course Boats. It was with much pleasure that RCD presented Mark with a “Vocational Excellence Award” for his great professionalism and dedication to Sea Rescue which benefits the Perth / Fremantle community greatly.
Mark thanked the RCD for the award as they get minimal recognition. He was most appreciative.
Speaker: Geoff Russell (Mt Lawley Club)
Geoff spoke and showed a video regarding the club’s project of raising $40k for Scarlet Wittmore’s wheelchair accessible vehicle. Scarlet suffers from multiple disabilities caused by a rare genetic disorder. She is the only person in WA with this specific condition (mutation of the GMB1 gene).
Please consider donating to Scarlet’s cause. So far, they have raised $18k.
Club Forum: Social Media
Each table was given a task of asking three questions regarding various Social Media platforms, including; Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
The session was likely and proved that most members need a lot more help in this regard as the most common but understandable question concerned relevance. All good fun.
