Lovely words from Nedlands Yacht Club Members
With the kind donation from the Rotary Club of Dalkeith we have purchased 40 new life jackets in assorted sizes for juniors learning to sail at our club.
We used a portion of the donation to fabricate a life jacket storage rack. The storage rack was fabricated by the Men's Shed of Mosman Park.
Your donation has enabled Nedlands Yacht Club to provide essential, high-quality safety equipment to junior sailors participating in our sail training programs.
We conduct sail training throughout the school holidays and each Sunday morning during the spring, summer, and autumn months.
I have attached some photos of our juniors wearing the new life jackets with their sailing instructors in the background.

With a few extra late bags plus Xmas Cakes, we collected more than 3,000kg of Food. This compares to 139kg last year! That is a huge improvement.

Richard Ranshaw and Jill Elias have just delivered 88 fruit cakes, some steamed puddings, sugar, tea, cutlery, water, and paper cups to Foodbank.
They met Aggie and Oscar from Foodbank; they were very appreciative of the donations.
Many thanks to Richard for organizing the fruit cake drive and to Anita Bourke for the other items delivered today.

Two photos taken by Jill Elias on the 9th of November at SCGH, organised by Anita Bourke. We sorted gloves
and medical equipment for use at CTEC at UWA and to be sent to Madagascar. Karen Munjak from the Rotary
Club of Grande Prairie in Canada, who wrote to the Club a few weeks ago, also came along to help.
We have finalised our 3rd International book drive to the Buk Bilong Pikinini Foundation in PNG. Again our local schools have contributed thousands of books which were boxed into 103 boxes. 1000kgs in weight, around 6000 books.

Over the 3 years we have now sent more than 300 boxes which has resulted in approximately 20,000 books delivered to children all over PNG.

Special thanks to Rotarians David Miller and Anita Bourke for their efforts. We also have a fantastic transport partner in Sadleirs Global Logistics who have supported us every year in moving the books to Brisbane.

And of course the books are donated from the generous school communities of the primary schools of Dalkeith, Cottesloe, Floreat Park, Christchurch and John 23rd.

This year we we successfully received a matching District grant of $4000 for further community support to the Assisi Centre in Uganda. Together with the club contribution we transferred $8000 for 3 significant water hygiene, water storage and sanitation projects at three additional Ugandan schools. The work will improve the lives of more than 2000 more students and indirectly improve health outcomes in their broader communities.

Assisi partners with schools in rural Ugandan communities to provide free meals to students, improve learning infrastructures as well as strengthen Hygiene, Water and Sanitation facilities.

Emily Nabakooza Rotary Peace Fellow Graduate has led the delivery of all 3 projects on budget and ahead of time. Emily is operating in a very challenging environment to deliver water security at Ugandan schools and improving the lives and education outcomes for so many students. Our projects have now positively impacted the lives of nearly 5000 students!

As you can see from the photos our contribution is much appreciated!!

Last year our International Committee recommended donating $3000 to the Assisi Centre in Uganda. Assisi Centre for Social Justice and Peace is run by  Emily Nabakooza who studied and became a  Rotary Peace Fellow some years ago when she was in Australia.

Our first club donation sponsored the installation of Energy Efficient Cooking Stoves. As a vital pathway to providing healthy and nutritious meals, proper kitchen infrastructure is key. Most schools prepare meals on traditional three stone stoves which not only present health risks to kitchen staff but also mean that large quantities of firewood are used in preparing school meals.

Our contribution benefitted more than 2,200 school children and 100 teaching staff, assisted in providing a healthier and spacious working environment for meals preparation, enabled schools to save on the quantity of firewood required to prepare meals, and also minimise on environmental destruction  that is usually as a result of cutting trees for fuel needed to prepare school meals.

In total we have now contributed $11,000 in support of an important Rotary Global Objective and worked with a Ugandan Rotary Peace Fellow to achieve a great outcome.
