For our first lunch meeting of year 2025 on the 8th, we had an informative update from our Guest Speaker Karina O’Carroll from Animals Asia on the Herbal Heroes project and how your Club has contributed to its success. PDG Ada Cheng and DS Elizabeth Fong also attended the luncheon.
Two hands-on community service projects were carried out, on 7th and 21st January, where we distributed warm gloves, socks, sleeping bags, steel water bottles etc to homeless street sleepers at the TST waterfront. A very fulfilling project especially to see the gratitude in the eyes of the recipients of the warm stuff, in view of the cold weather.
We have had our newest member Dr Neeraj Mahboobani inducted at the dinner meeting on 22nd at KCC. Let’s all work to get some more new members in, especially young persons and from other nationalities.
As mentioned previously, we are one of the sponsors of the CPR/AED Education project which aims to teach these essential life-saving skills to members. Intention is to have this training arranged for interested members sometime in March 2025. This is a skill that all our members should learn as it could help save lives of others in critical times.
Our flagship Feed elderly community service project was held at Kwai Chung YMCA on 22nd February and hope to see many members participate here.
A reminder that our Annual Ball will be held on 31st May 2025 so pls mark your diaries. Look forward to your active and strong presence and contribution towards raffle prizes, ball tickets, ball tables, advertisements and other fund raising measures as this is our biggest source of income that enables us to do community services throughout the year!
In closing, I once again wish all my Rotarian family a great, Happy, Prosperous and Healthy time ahead.

As an international organization, Rotary offers each member unique opportunities and responsibilities, although each Rotarian has first responsibility to uphold the obligations of citizenship of his or her own country. Membership in Rotary enables Rotarians to take a somewhat unique view of international affairs. In the early 1950s, a Rotary philosophy was adopted to describe how a Rotarian may think on a global basis. Here is what it said: “A world-minded Rotarian looks beyond national patriotism and considers himself as sharing responsibility for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace; resists any tendency to act in terms of national or racial superiority; seeks and develops common grounds for agreement with peoples of other lands; defends the rule of law and order to preserve the liberty of the individual so that he may enjoy freedom of thought, speech and assembly, and freedom from persecution, aggression, want and fear; supports action directed toward improving standards of living for all peoples, realizing that poverty anywhere endangers prosperity everywhere; upholds the principles of justice for mankind; strives always to promote peace between nations and prepares to make personal sacrifices for that ideal; urges and practices a spirit of understanding of every other man’s beliefs as a step toward international goodwill, recognizing that there are certain basic moral and spiritual standards which will ensure a richer, fuller life.” That is quite an assignment for any Rotarian to practice in thoughts and actions!
Quote of the month:
Believe in true service does not sham service. It is not about pleasing rules but doing service with heart.
