Eight Rotary Clubs in Southland are coming together as People of Action on 24th September, inviting the wider community to join in on this project with an environmental focus.
Picking up rubbish is one way to reduce pollution on the beach. Rubbish pollution on the coastline can enter the ocean affecting the marine ecosystem.
Everyone is welcome to join in on this project to support our environment, one of the 7 areas of focus for Rotary on the Rotary Day of Action.
What: Beach Clean-up - Collection of rubbish in designated areas
Where: Oreti Beach, North Entrance to the mouth of the estuary
When: Saturday 24th September, 8.30am – 1.30pm
- Meet at Main Entrance of Oreti Beach at 8.30am
- H & S briefing at 8.30am
- Groups of 8 supported with Rotary vehicle & trailer allocated designated areas
- A BBQ lunch provided after the clean-up @1.30pm
- Tidal information: Low tide 6.18am / High Tide 12.35pm
- Rubbish bags provided
- Gloves and sturdy footwear required.

What is Rotary Day of Action?
Rotary Day of Action, on September 24, 2022, is a day where all clubs in Rotary Zone 8 (New Zealand and Pacific Islands) have been invited to collaborate towards undertaking a specific day of action to promote, embrace and engage in a community project to show case the values of Rotary.

Continued club collaboration benefits local environment
12 years ago the Rotary Clubs in Invercargill planted out more than 250,000 native plants over 22ha on what used to be the Invercargill tip.
