Our speaker for this coming Monday is District Governor Elect Tania Lowery who hails from the Balclutha Club. This weekend a number of us are going to the District Conference at Oamaru which has some excellent speakers and activities to look forward to including tours of Dots Castle and the Tempero motor body workshop. Full report at Monday nights meeting.
Macy Bisset and her mum, Lynne, attended our last meeting and Macy reported on her year as a Rotary Exchange student in Denmark. What an amazing time she had! During her year, Macy lived with three different Rotary host families and had the opportunity to travel to many places in Europe and Scandinavia. She shared many wonderful experiences with us – these included travelling to Northern Italy on a family ski trip (Macy’s first experience of skiing), holidaying in Spain, class trip to Rome, and a European trip for all the Rotary exchange students.
Macy attended language classes weekly, learning Danish. She even managed to present her final talk to the Rotary Club in Denmark in Danish – an outstanding effort. Macy and her mum were very grateful to the Rotary Club of Milton for their support for her year overseas; she said it was a life-changing experience and has definitely wet her appetite for travel in the future.
We wish Macy all the best as she settles back into year 13 at Taieri College this year.
Project Bruce are keen to hear from people who would like to become Civil Defence volunteers and be prepared to help out at the Civil Defence bases in the case of an emergency in Milton or the wider Bruce District. If you are interested, Project Bruce want to hear from you. Training will be provided by Civil Defence staff.
Please contact Glenis or Susie if you would like your name to be on the list.
We have two young people as the speakers for our next meeting.
Patrick Norman will share his experience at the Blue Light Leadership Camp held in Tauranga in December last year. We will also hear from Shawn Taylor, who was supported by Milton Rotary to attend Outward Bound.
We look forward to hearing about the experiences of these young men.
