President's Message for 17 October

Kia Ora

We had our biweekly meeting on 3rd Oct and welcomed approx. 18 members and 2 guests.  Our guest speaker was Trevor Millar of Pavlova fame and he was accompanied by Colin Brown; it was heartening to hear the story from Trevor rationalizing all the business back to Dunedin instead of the other way round!

Milton Rotary has decided to contribute $50,000 to the proposed new pool / admin facility in Milton (spread over two years)   and we hope that with this large donation it will encourage others. We need also to extract some good P.R from this.

We have a busy week ahead with Milton Rotary and Lions hosting the Otago Helicopter Trust at the Milton RUGBY Club this coming Wed 19th at 7pm - we would like a good support of members, friends and family  $15 a head, finger food provided.

Look forward to seeing everyone at next meeting Monday 17th.

Regards Ross P.
Stories
Guest Speaker 3 October
Trevor Miller, joining us from Taieri Rotary club, gave a wonderful talk on his Pavlova journey. Building from obtaining pavlova licensing straight from the hands of Mr and Mrs Cowell initially for Otago / Southland, exanding further domestically and then further abroad into the likes of Australia and the States.

After finding himself back and forth in the international market, Trevor envisioned his Cowells Pavlova as a high quality product that could dominate the domestic market and set forth to do so. Retracting from the international ties, Trevor continued to acquire licensing across the country and he became one step closer to his dream in the year of 2013/14 – obtaining the final license in New Zealand. A wonderful journey and a big thank you to Trevor for sharing with us.

Directors' Reports
Swimming Pool Donation
Jim Murdoch announced proposal of donation along the lines of $20,000-$25,000 per year over two years to be donated on behalf of Milton Rotary Club to the Bruce Community Facilities Trust for the swimming pool.
Discussed announcing the donation as a lump sum of $50,000 (paid over 2 years) vs announcing the donation as $25,000 over two years to garner wider attention.
Discussion around aggressively publicising the donation to draw funding from sources further afield.
Motion for the above proposal was moved 1st by Colin Calteaux and moved 2nd by Steve McLay for a total donation value of $50,000 to be donated over a two year period ($25,000/year).
Steven Woodhead had a discussion regarding the timing of the donation, which was moved earlier, that Milton Rotary Club look to donate on the 31 of March.

Tramping Club
Discussed the tramping season ahead and that numbers for those trips looked promising.
