Bronson Blackbourn, a year 13 student from Tokomairiro High School, spoke to us about his community involvement. At the start of 2018 Bronson became a member of the Clutha District Youth Council. The council then elected him as chairman. So far this year the Youth Council has hosted quiz nights and the “Be Motivated Be You” seminar in Balclutha. Bronson represented the Youth Council with a submissinn to the Long Term Plan. The submission was the use of illegal substances in the Clutha District. This submission captured the attention of the council and the support of a representative of the Southern District Police. In March last year Bronson along with others founded the Milton Community Choir. Bronson now chairs this group. Each week they attend practice and have performed at community functions. Bronson is also a member of Project Bruce which has the aim of building a better community and have a number of initiatives underway. He is a cadet in St John Youth and intends to move to Wellington next year to study Paramedicine. Once qualified he would like to work in the Dunedin area. Bronson is an outstanding young man heavily involved in our community. I am sure we will hear more of him in the future.Bronson Blackbourn
