An update on longtime Rotarian Gene Manning from his son, Dave Manning. Gene is in "lockdown" right now at Park Gardens because of concerns over the COVID-19 epidemic. He does have a landline phone still hooked up at 736-4417, but his hearing does make it a little difficult to have anything beyond a short "hello" conversation. Recognizing his activities and mobility, the best time to give a call would be in the evening. The emotions of hearing from friends persist and leave him in a very good mood, even if he might not remember the details of the conversation. He no longer uses email or the internet. He does appreciate postal mail, and reads through the mail regularly. Cards, any newsletters, or even just email updates (subsequently printed and mailed to him) would be greatly appreciated. He still receives and looks through the Daily Journal every few days.
David also wrote: "I'm so glad to hear his Rotarian friends still think of him and ask about him. Your club has been an amazing group for him to belong to and receive support from over the years (it's where my Rotary journey began). Club meetings were the last community involvement that he regularly enjoyed attending. I know he will want to maintain membership and financial support for the club and the Rotary Foundation as long as he is able (and he is fortunate this is not a financial burden for him to sustain). I do hope that when we are eventually allowed to travel back to Minnesota, Gene and I will be able to attend one of your Rotary club meetings together."
