At the past two meetings we were joined by Honorary Rotarian Elaine Olson and, at our last meeting, Keith acknowledged her birthday on April 24th. On April 14th Wally Cole led us in prayer while on the 21st Pete Wasberg gave our invocation. We heard announcements about supporting the Sunrise Club's Radio Days scheduled for May 3-7, and our Club's efforts to raise funds through offering shredding services, with the first event to occur on Saturday, May 8th from 9:00 a.m. to noon (see more information below). Brian also reported he would be sending out the brag and fine cards to those who committed to extra raffle ticket sales during our most recent fundraiser. We also heard from Keith Olson that Steve Leitte and he are going to bring a big tractor and large tiller to the Community Garden the second week of May to help out there; you can talk to either one of them about being of any needed assistance. Brags spoken at our last two meetings included John MacFarlane noting his and Eunice's 58th wedding anniversary and that he received his ancestry report back indicating he is 84% Scotch, 13% Irish and 3% other; that prompted Keith to recall the family that sent away for their ancestry report and got back a bag of seeds with directions to start over; Greg Darling also acknowledged his and Connie's anniversary and an upcoming trip to Florida; Hal Leland reported his grandson Matthew will graduate from UND's Medical School this May and his residency in neurology will be in Salt Lake City. In addition to honoring his mother, Keith referenced how he spoke in eight languages when he accidentally hit his hand with a hammer; Wally Cole told us that Gert Larson turned 105 a week ago and is still living in the home that she and former Rotarian and District Governor Ed Larson purchased; Tim Hunt was proud to report the birth of his second greatgrandchild, with another one on the way; and Buzz Lundeen was ready to celebrate his and Anne's 60th wedding anniversary on April 22nd. On the 14th Katie Johnson introduced Joanne Ryan who moved from Oklahoma to Fergus this past year to be the head staff person at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. On the 21st we had a presentation by Rotarian Lois Josefson on the 10th Minnesota Entrepreneur Kickoff held the prior week, also sharing a video from it on quantum and cognitive computing. |
