After Zack S. offered our invocation, we celebrated local clergy a week earlier than normal with Wally C. bringing as his guest Joey Kalan; Dean M. introducing Loren Mellon, Beth Monke and Eliza Johnson; John M. hosting Doug Dent and Ed Morgan; and Kathy A. bringing her husband Steve and Eric Uggerud. Student Guests from the public high school introduced themselves. Julia Aguilarl (daughter of Jessica and Fidel) plays soccer and intends to pursue an education in early childhood development or criminal justice at schools in either Duluth or Morris. Ari Krueger (Jenny and Beau) plays volleyball and basketball, is the President of the school's National Honor Society and intends to pursue a pre-law track. Julia Hajicek (Katie and Tyson) is a tennis player, Vice Presidente of the National Honor Society and plans on attending college on the east coast.  A Rotary Minute Quiz based on the prior week's e-Rounds saw two of three questions answered correctly. President Katie recognized Brian T. and Mark B. for their fifth- and ninth-year anniversaries in the club respectively and also noted November birthdays for Dean M. and Ryan W. Will H. led off the bragging, telling us that the fraternity at his alma mater raised $206,000 the prior weekend for St. Jude's. Dean M. then thanked our speaker for the day, Jessie Thorstad, for having saved Dean on technological challenges at the school and for always buying roses and peaches when Dean comes knocking. Brian T. bragged about missing last week's meeting because of a sewer back-up and fined himself for his seventh-grade granddaughter lettering in cross country, or vica versa. Steve A. was back from a trip to New York while Kathy A. returned from a cruise down the Danube, prompting them both to share their adventures with those assembled. Jesse Thorstad talked about the Two Shirt Army he started, kind of an outgrowth of and replacement for the Mowing Club he had spoken to us about before. The Two Shirt Army helps people in various ways. Volunteers get a t-shir with the group's logo, including a cross, donated by Lake Country Graphics. He hopes to see more church groups help out and is looking to establish a sizable volunteer pool with a wide range of skills. Just contact Jesse and you will get on the list of volunteers that are texted when a service opportunity presents itself. |
