Otter Tail County Historical Society

We will be at the Otter Tail County Historical Society. This is a hot dish festival. Make an authentic hot dish and bring to share. Also bring your favorite beverage (alcohol is fine), dishes, flatware and napkins. If you can’t live without a salad or dessert, bring it too, but remember, this is a hot dish festival, not a salad or dessert festival. Most importantly, be happy! Be prepared to share your recipe.

There is a great exhibit at the museum during this time entitled “Fergus Falls Cyclone of 1919". On June 22, 1919, a collision of warm and cold fronts produced a tornado that damaged or destroyed two-thirds of Fergus Falls. Over 50 were killed and hundreds injured. The significance of this storm on Otter Tail County’s largest community and county seat, was far-reaching. The display examines what life was like for residents of Fergus Falls in 1919. It then illustrates the storm’s destructive pass through the city and ends with how the city was rebuilt bigger and better then before.
