Hi all
We are going to relive an event that many of the longer serving members remember as the "Gut Buster". This was a running and walking event around the perimeter fence of the Karori Sanctuary. The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson always had a great turn out of members at this event and ended up being the permanent holders of the District Governors' Silver Platter, awarded to the top performing Rotary Club at the event. We won it 3 times.
Of course we won't cover the complete event course, we will only do the 9 kilometres around the fence line.
Meet up at the park, where the Scout Den is, at the top of Campbell St, Karori. We head off up the hill and walk around the fence line, covering Wright's Hill, the Wind Turbine, George Denton Park, and the Sanctuary entrance along the way. It will take 2.5 to 3 hours depending on how often and how long the stops to enjoy the views are.
A independent description of the track from a running site -
"Difficulty: The terrain varies from easy, to mostly intermediate, with some small sections of difficulty. These are generally not technical trails. In the colder (wetter) months you will want shoes with good grip. Wellingtonians will say that the trail is “undulating”, which means it is constantly up and down. It can get cool and gusty on the tops."
Come out and have some fun, fresh air, amazing views and great company.
As it is Fathers' Day we may get the Ladies to shout the Gentlemen lunch at One Fat Bird in Karori.
Please RSVP so we know to wait in case you are running a minute or two late.
