This trip was previously postponed due to extremely bad weather.  Lets hope the weather Gods are kinder to us this time

Butterfly Creek, Eastbourne.

Meet at Muritai Park entrance on Muritai Road, Eastbourne opposite Karamu Street (entrance is between 259 and 261 Muritai Road) ready to start walking at 10:00am.  We are allowing for a later than usual start for those coming from Wellington.

Map is here:   http://www.gw.govt.nz/assets/Parks-and-Recreation/East-Harbour/EHRPNorthbrochuremap2007.pdf

We will head up the hill for about 30 minutes where we meet the intersection of all the tracks leading down to Butterfly Creek.  The track has a difficulty rating of intermediate. However it is not a difficult walk if you are reasonably fit. It is fairly steep at first, but the track is level and well groomed.  Good walking shoes recommended, boots probably not needed.  Even if it is sunny bring some warm clothing and a rain jacket as a precaution.  Don't forget your sun block.

The Greater Wellington Regional Council site shows the walk in to the picnic area will take about 1 hour 30 minutes.  (We’ve done it in much less in years past). We will stop for a tea break at the creek for about 15 - 20 minutes.  Bring a thermos of tea or your favourite beverage and some special treats to reward yourself. Good idea to carry some insect repellent with you.

We’ll head back out to arrive at the cars around 1pm.

Don't forget to bring your face masks.

Between now and then I will find a suitable cafe based on advice from locals.

If the weather turns really nasty (organisers interpretation not yours) and we need to cancel we will contact you.  Expect it to go ahead rain or shine.

Please RSVP by 6pm Friday 18 March if you are coming.  Ensure your mobile number is included in the response.

Look forward to seeing you.
