A Simple Rotary Service Project Satisfies a Community Need
 
Heart Kids Tree of Remembrance, at the Very Welly Christmas Parade this year.
 
People can write a memory of an absent loved one, tie it on to the tree with a yellow ribbon and volunteer a donation to Heart Kids. At the end, the memories are placed in a canister. The canister is buried under a commemorative tree, planted on Mount Victoria next planting season.  In return for a donation to Heart Kids, Bushy Trees donates the Christmas Tree.
 
Some brave club members braved the nine-sandbag wind to do this very worthwhile project. In the end, the beautiful tree, donated by Bushy Trees, had to be squashed into a more sheltered spot. 
 
However, the 2022 tree was heading for a record of over 1,500 ribbons and over $4,000 donated. Fresh N Bushy Christmas Trees donate the tree each year and match each dollar raised.  Unfortunately, the weather caused the Sunday parade to be cancelled.
