Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

Todd E Johnson passed this week. The above image is from the 1983-84 Skyline Club Roster. It is appropriate because Todd was the Club Historian. He will be missed. No information about a service at this point. There will be a card to sign at the meeting on Friday.

We will meet this Friday 5/1/2026 at the YMCA. Our presenter will be Jim Philbin from One Roof Community Housing.  Duties this week: Invocation by Judy Rogers, Fellowship by Mark.

Great Job Skyliners and all of the Twin Ports Clubs on the Park Point Clean Up last Saturday. WDIO TV put coverage on the news.

Guests last week were: Mike Waldron, Maddie Schmacher, Dan Dock.
Mark told about his visit from Patty Yax on Friday morning. She and Rod were in Duluth for an medical procedure for her legs that wasn't available in Florida. It was great to see Patty. Deb gave a report on that Daniel Gohstand is now in the Guatemala city of Santa Maria de Jesus and is buying supplies for the school with the funds that Skyline donated. Next step is to determine the scope and building cost for a Community Center and the write a grant application. We had 11 scholarship applications from Hermantown and Proctor. Mark and Tom are reviewing them and selecting winners. Tom talked about attending the social gathering for Traci
Petrich who was diagnosed with ALS. Wade is a teacher now and said that he hopes to visit us this summer.
Mike Waldron told us about his military experience as a marine and especially his time fighting in Iraq. He told us that the Iraq military took off their uniforms when the American soldiers arrived. So the Americans couldn't distinguish soldiers from citizens. Mike said that the the first signs of his PTSD came while driving down a freeway when he had panic attacks. His own experience with PTSD was the imputus for starting 23rd Veteran. They use a 14 week program that starts with a wilderness experience and progresses through a 14 week group therapy. The name 23rd Veteran refers to the 23 veterans per day at that time who were committing suicide. The annual fundraiser for 23rd Veteran, Ruck Life, is May 30th at Fond Du Lac ski area. Volunteers carry rucksacks filled with food on a hike and then the food is donated to Second Harvest. 900 pounds last year. Thank you Mike for a tough, but important program.

April is Rotary International Youth Services Month.
