This Friday, September 22nd we will meet at the YMCA.
Our presenter will be Rachel Ashford speaking about mental health. Look for a follow up email with the attachment; Presidential Initiative: Mental Health and Well-being.
Duties will be: Invocation - Joe Dusek, Greeter -
Matt Wicklund, Fellowship - Alex Schult.
Fall Highway Cleanup will follow our meeting. Meet in the parking lot of Terry's Auto Body 5132 Rice Lake Road.
Last Saturday a group of Skyliners handed out water and cheered on skaters at the In Line Marathon. It was fun to watch the skaters of all sizes and ages. There was a learning curve to handing bottles of water to skaters who were flying by.
Our guests at last week's meeting were Club 25er Dan Dock, Superior Rotarian Luke Matthews and his guest Allison Lee, and our speaker State Representative Natalie Zelezniker.
Greg Kaake introduced Natalie who spoke about her first year as a State Representative. She said that being a sports Mom and a nursing home administrator through Covid properly prepared her for the job. She spoke of the personal challenges of caring for people who couldn't have their families close by as they suffered and died from Covid. "No wonder there are so many mental health problems". She was well positioned and experienced as the legislature addressed the needs of nursing homes with additional funding. She spoke about some of her efforts to support constituants who were having troubles negotiating State government, and how she made her decisions on voting for legislation. "Is this the best for my District?" We can be proud to have her as our Representative.
Judy passed around a signup sheet for the Wednesday, October 4th at 5:30 weekend backpack food filling at Second Harvest. There are kids who may not have any food on the weekends without these backpacks. We need 10-15 volunteers.
Russ is working on details for a "Trunk or Treat" event at the YMCA for the kids. MEA is October 20th so kids are out of school. The idea would be for Skyliners to hand out candy (from the trunk of our cars) to the kids in the ECFE program. Maybe Trish can set us up with some costumes.
September is Rotary Basic Education and Literacy Month. A good month for our new Board Youth Services duo Alex and Emily to connect with our schools.
