Skyline Rotary had a good crew and got lots of work done last Friday on the Hermantown Outdoor Classroom.
When the classroom project was designed and constructed twenty years ago, we didn’t anticipate having water runoff problems from the pitched metal roof and hill behind the building. We returned last week and excavated a swale behind and around the building to direct the runoff water, placed landscape fabric in the swale, and covered it with river rock. A gutter was also installed to capture the roof runoff and redirect it to the wooded area. The kids really use this facility and now they won’t get muddy shoes coming off of the adjacent trails. Plans to chip some of the local downed wood and further improve the look and use of the site are also in the works.
