Ed Chignell: CEO Predator Free 2050

Rotary has been fortunate to secure this respected businessman and conservationist to speak to our combined clubs on Monday the 24 of September, at the Waipuna Convention Centre.

Ed has a strong commercial background and a ton of strategic nous. He was appointed CEO of this new nationwide initiative in August 2017. He is a life member of the NZ Arboriculture Association and the recipient of the Ron Flook Award for services to NZ.

He was co- founder of Treescape and for 37 years, was CEO of that large company.

Ed will give us an overview of the objectives and a practical look inside this mammoth task to rid NZ of predators. This is a perfect umbrella view for our Rotary and local schools’ push to become pest free in our area. Ed gives very few public addresses, so we should make the most of this opportunity.

This is an important event in relation to the joint project by local Rotary clubs to eradicate pests in Howick and Pakuranga. You should invite anyone who has an interest in this project.

5:30 pm pre-dinner drinks and dinner Cost $32 for dinner. 6:45 pm approx. meeting starts Cost $5 meeting only

Predator Free 2050 Ltd was formed in Nov 2016 by the New Zealand Government via the Department of Conservation to realise New Zealand’s Predator Free 2050 goal.

The company invests around $5 million per year in large landscape projects and scientific research, and leverages new funding to rid New Zealand of the possums, rats and stoats which threaten its unique fauna and flora.

Predator Free 2050 Ltd’s work is overseen by a Board of leading New Zealanders with governance, science, iwi, conservation, business, rural management and philanthropic backgrounds.
