DL Breakfast Rotary on 4/18/23 was led by student Annie Hoaglum. Annie had students from Detroit Lakes and Frazee giving insight to their experience with RYLA, Interact and 4-way test. First (Grace Janice) and second (Julia Steffl) place winners read their 4-way test essays. Our club presented a check for $500 to Grace and one for $250 to Julia.

Annie led a delegation of students who offered perspectives on various Rotary activities in the two schools – Interact, 4-Way Essay Contest, and RYLA. Julia presented her 4-way Test Essay entry which applied the Test to the implementation of the overturning of Roe/Wade abortion regulations. Her entry won 2nd place in the DL Contest (Breakfast and Noon Club competition). Grace applied the Test to the involvement of religion in Rotary Club meetings. Her entry was the 1st place winner in the local competition. Both received strong positive reactions to their efforts.

Several of the girls had gone to RYLA and were happy to provide insights into its contributions to their lives. They spoke of goal-setting, how to be effective at leadership, team-building, how to face “out-of-zone” situations. All were enthusiastic about the experience and adamant that more students should have the experience.
