Harriette L. Spiegel, Ph.D. is the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Education at St. Mary’s University for the term January 4 - April 30, 2021. Her research topic is: Furthering Digital Accessibility: Exploring Pathways to Reaching Full Awareness
The Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America (Fulbright Canada) is a binational, treaty-based, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization with a mandate to engage exceptional scholars and students in reciprocal academic exchange between Canada and the United States of America. Dr. Spiegel is exploring her topic Digital Accessibility as she fulfills the terms of the Award. She wrote her dissertation for the Ph. D. in Instructional Technology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2008 and observed subjects with visual disabilities as they used the Internet. She has been in the field of educational technology for over 20 years, as graduate student, adjunct instructor, and lecturer. She is an online Lecturer in the Educational Studies Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin, in Martin, Tennessee, U. S. A., where she has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Research, Educational Psychology, Spanish, and English as a Second Language, among other courses. In presenting to the Rotary Club Halifax Harbourside, she hopes to spread awareness of Digital Accessibility as well as respond to the new laws and regulations on Accessibility in both Canada and the United States, particularly those related to online teaching and learning.
