The Orange County Department of Social Services provides a wide range of social services and health benefits programs to assist eligible citizens in solving problems in employment, daycare, foster care, housing and domestic issues with an emphasis on personal responsibility and work.

BIO

Crystal Hale – Director; Orange County Department of Social Services

Crystal is a life-long native of Orange County and currently lives in Burr Hill on the family farm.  She graduated from Orange County High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with a focus on leadership and business administration from The University of Mary Washington.  After spending ten years working for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in various management positions, Crystal accepted an opportunity to work with the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and shifted her focus to the human services field.  During her tenure at VDSS, she was responsible for providing assistance to over 25 Local Departments of Social Services (LDSS) in the areas of finance, budget, personnel, and other administrative obstacles.  During her tenure with VDSS, Crystal became intrigued with the work accomplished at the local level and aspired to become a Director.  She served as Director in Rappahannock County prior to coming to Orange and is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve her hometown community.  ​
