Relay For Life

On Oct. 19, 2009, Sherry Dumont from the Canadian Cancer Society was the guest speaker. Sherry has been with the organization for 14 years. She lives in Hampton with her family and has been involved with the 12-hour Relay For Life event since it was initiated in New Brunswick nine years ago.

Sherry has attended a good many of the 31 Relays in New Brunswick. The Relay For Life is now the single most significant fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society. All the relays, while different, have similarities, including the survivor's victory lap and the luminaries event. The Sussex Relay For Life is set for June 11, 2010, and she is looking for volunteers for various committees. The average team raises $2,300.

Sherry also spoke about the various support and prevention programs that the Canadian Cancer Society provides and was informative in this regard. She would like to see the Rotary Club put in a team in 2010. She provided information and handouts, including team logs for fundraising, should we put a team in.

Sherry was introduced by Roger Albert and thanked by Bob Black.
