On Jan. 18, 2010, our guest speakers were Tanya Warren (right), a civilian member of RCMP and Sarah Smith of the Citizens on Patrol program. Both Tanya and Sarah told us a bit about the program and how it got started in Sussex & Sussex Corner.
It started locally in October 2009 due to a reported increase in vandalism and reports by some citizens of feeling less than safe in our community. This program has been going on successfully in St. Stephen for over 15 years. It is a volunteer project not funded by taxpayers.
The members are trained volunteers who enjoy making a difference in their communities. They are not police officers. They are a valued resource to the local police agency patrolling the neighbourhood ensuring safe homes and a safe community. They are looking for more members to help with the growth and sustainability of this worthy cause.
