Paul Harris Recipients 2008
The Rotary Club of Saint John celebrated its 94th Annual Charter Night on Thursday, May 22th at the Lily Lake Pavilion.
One hundred and twenty Rotarians, guests and well-wishers joined in the celebration to see well-known business people Gerry Pond and Heather Petersen awarded Paul Harris Fellowships; the highest and most esteemed honour in Rotary.
Saint John's club, founded in 1914, started to celebrate its "charter" in 1916 as a social evening for members and guests. Since 1978, the club has also recognized local business and community leaders for their contributions and service to the community by giving Paul Harris Fellow awards.
The worldwide Rotary movement was first-started in 1905, in Chicago, by four local businessmen, led by founder Mr. Paul Harris; to offer a forum for networking and to give service to the community.
Since then, Rotary International has grown to 1.5 million members, in 32,000 clubs, in 200 countries around the world.
