At a news conference at 9 AM on Jan. 6th, 2004 at the Teen Resource Centre on Coburg Street, Rotary President Guy Richards, Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative (BCAPI) subcommittee Chairman Paschal Chisholm , and the Honorable Margaret-Ann Blaney, Minister of of Training, Employment and Development announced funding commitments from the Saint John Rotary Club and the Province of New Brunswick for the establishment of a new Resource Center for Youth.

Each organization announced today it will contribute one-half million dollars towards construction of the $2 million project.

"Today's news is the most important development in our march towards completion of this project," said Mr. Chisholm. "The million dollars announced today represents half of the funds needed to build the centre. With a clear commitment from the community and from the Province, we hope the federal government will be able to find funds to help us reach our goal."

In President Guy Richards remarks, he said "The Saint John Rotary Club has a long history of helping youth locally as well as internationally. On Rotary International 50th Anniversary, we dedicated $100,000 to the establishment of the Rotary Boys & Girls Club which has helped many young people in Saint John.

February 2005 marks Rotary International's 100th anniversary and we are looking forward to celebrating our anniversary by supporting another major community project: our membership is committed to raising $500,000 towards the building of this facility. We will be committing our own funds and conducting a major community fundraising effort to meet our $500,000 target.

In order to ensure this facility will become reality, we need Provincial and Federal Government support. We are expecting a reply from the final partner very soon as we are actively pursuing their response.
