Christmas Luncheon 2007

The Rotary Boys Choir performs a selection of Christmas carols for 50 Rotarians and families on Monday December 17th. This is an annual event that is widely anticipated by all Club members.

President John Buchanan presents the Club's annual donation for the Choir's operating costs. This year the cheque was for $5,000! Receiving the check on behlf of the choir is Kevin Langford, left and Maureen Beckwith. She's taking over from Kevin who is on a sabbatical for a year.

President John Buchanan provided a brief historical overview of the Boys Choir. The choir started in 1964 under the leadership of Rotarian Dr. Len Morgan. The genesis of the Rotary Boys Choir followed a performance of the Vienna Boys Choir at the Imperial Theatre. The visit caused quite a stir and a lot of interest in the community; hence the motivation in forming a youth choir for Saint John. Infact, the boys attended a return-performance of the Vienna Boys choir just last week; again, at the Imperial Theatre, on December 11th. The next day both groups visited together and enjoyed a game of basketball together. The Club donated $500 for the boys to attend. The boys raised $1300, themselves, to be able to go. They also celebrated their evening out, and the anniversary of the Saint John choir, by taking Dr. Len Morgan with them. Everyone really enjoyed the evening!
