54 Years of the Diamond Creek Town Fair – A Walk Down Memory Lane

It’s hard to imagine Diamond Creek without the Town Fair. For generations, it has been one of those special days when the whole community comes together – families, schools, sporting clubs, community groups, businesses and, of course, plenty of enthusiastic volunteers.

But did you know the planning for the Diamond Creek Town Fair began way back in 1971 with the first Fair being held in 1972.

The Fair was originally organised by the Diamond Creek Progress Association as a way of bringing local people together and celebrating the township. It was much smaller than the event we know today, but the spirit was much the same – community, fun and plenty of local involvement.

When the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek was chartered in 1992, the club quickly became involved in the Fair. Rotary members helped with activities including the torchlight parade, stalls and the ever-popular Hole-in-One golf competition.

By 1995, Rotary was sponsoring the Best Commercial Float and Battle of the Bands, as well as running a homemade produce stall and the wonderfully named “Welly” throwing competition.

The Hole-in-One became a major Rotary fundraiser in the late 1990s – although the elusive hole-in-one remained elusive! Even enlarging the hole didn't seem to help.

By 2001, the Fair had grown considerably and the Progress Association faced the increasing challenge of managing such a large event with a volunteer team. That year, responsibility for the Fair was officially handed to the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek.

And what a journey it has been since then!

Fifty-four years after that first Fair, the heart of the event remains the same – bringing Diamond Creek together. It is a wonderful example of what can happen when a community gets behind an idea and volunteers give their time and energy to make it happen.

After all these years, the Fair is still bringing Diamond Creek together – and that is certainly something worth celebrating!
