e.Dr McDonald was instrumental in conceiving the idea of supporting medical students from our region committed to practising in regional NSW. These scholarships, each valued at $2,000, are intended to aid students in obtaining necessary textbooks and equipment. The first scholarships were granted in 2013.

Emily Philips was presented with the scholarship. Emily is a fourth-year medical student and has chosen to study her entire medical degree rurally, with the first two years at Port Macquarie, and the rest at Albury including her research project targeting rural stroke risk factors furthermore been involved in many student initiatives and roles, most notably President of the Albury Wodonga Medical Students’ Society this year.
