Babur Mawladin was born in Mazar-e- Sharif, a city north of Afghanistan. Prior to his arrival in Canada in 2002, he studied at the Faculty of Medicine at Balkh University in Mazar-e- Sharif. Due to long standing conflict and wars in Afghanistan, Babur had to migrate and live as a refugee in several countries, where he studied and worked during these years. While living as a refugee in Tajikistan, Babur established Istiqlal School and several English and computer training centres for Afghan refugee children funded by the French Government. Babur returned to Afghanistan in early 2002, after the installation of the new government. Upon his return he established the second Istiqlal school in Afghanistan financed by the Ministry of Education, France, and other international organizations. In Sep 2002, Babur migrated to Canada to pursue his career and build a new life away from war and violence. Babur studied in areas of Social Services, Advance Counselling and Project Management and started working in the non-profit sector in 2004 in Toronto, Canada. In 2011 Babur assumed the role of Executive Director with Jane Alliance Neighbourhood Services (JANS), a local charitable organization serving newcomers, immigrants, and residents of Toronto West Neighbourhoods. During the last ten years Babur has researched, designed, secured funding, and implemented hundreds of projects at both national and international levels. Under his leadership JANS transformed from a small non-profit organization to a multi service agency serving thousands of clients every year through collaborating and building strategic partnerships with local and international partners to expand and extend services beyond JANS’ traditional boundaries. In addition, Babur served as member on various boards and had the honor to serve as Co-chair of Toronto West Local Immigration Partnership, President of Canada-Afghanistan Solidarity Committee and Afghan Network of Ontario, amongst others.
