Good News
Mike  and Karen Thomas have  been in contact with our drivers and guides from our clubs Tanzania trip with Sauti Moja in 2011.   Stephan and Deo were our safari guides during this trip. Tanzania is a low income country and Stephan and Deo 's income is entirely based on tourism which is non-existent now. Mike was very happy to announce  that participants from this  Rotary trip have been very generous in their  support of  Stephan and Deo's families at this time.

Makes you proud to be a member of Rotary when you  can make a difference in someones life.

Jeff Hunter introduced our speaker Nancy Movrin .  Nancy currently works for the city of Cambridge and was here to talk about Bernice Adams Memorial Fund

Bernice Adams was a councilor for the city of Galt for 10 years and was acclaimed 5 times.   She was known as a no nonsense politician and a straight shooter.   She had no time for long winded explanations and was a great debater.  She was the first women to be chairman of the Waterloo Region Police Board. After the flood in 1974 she arranged a telethon to raise 100,000 to help pay for damages.  Unfortunately her life was cut short by a heart attack in 1980.
At that time the city started The Bernice Adams Memorial Fund

This fund recognizes people in the community and groups for their outstanding  contributions in arts and cultural life from Cambridge.  ( Dave Sopha was honoured in 1997)

If you think of someone that might qualify to be honoured go to City of Cambridge.CA and type in Bernice Adams or awards.  There is an online application on the city of Cambridge website.

If you think you would like to be a trustee on this committee it is possible to apply for this too.

Failing that you can contact Nancy at movrin@cambridge.ca

Mike T thanked Nancy for attending and informing us about this great lady.   President  Chad did the usual club thanks.
