Nicole from SAIL (Sharing Active Independent Lives) is based within Oakwood Village West.
SAIL is a non-profit, membership organization of Dane County residents ages 55 and older, who stay active, engaged, and independent by connecting with each other and having access to high-quality services. SAIL is part of the “Village” movement for seniors (www.vtvnetwork.org).
They provide social opportunities to get folks out of their homes. They provide transportation, social events, educational opportunities.
The idea is essentially, It Takes a Village. SAIL is part of a village movement across the United States. SAIL bounces ideas off other groups to figure out what works well. Maybe transportation or a handyman.
They’ve been around 13 years. They serve all of Dane Co. As far west as Mt. Horeb, south to Belleville, east to Sun Prairie. 500 members. There is a two tiered membership: Associate Member and Full Member. Also a sliding fee scale is available. The biggest difference are the benefits. Full members get a daily check in (members call SAIL). ~Bob Lasseter, is a Horizons Rotary member.
Median age is about 80. Seeing an increase in younger members. 68 members over the age of 90 and most living on their own. Quite a few couples. People living alone need their services more. You can join anytime after 55. Home cleaning services are available and there are background and reference checks. Most of the services have come recommended by other members.
