Tom Engels is with the Department of Health Services for State of Wisconsin shares about the FoodShare program this is created to help train and create more employees.
Wisconsin has $73 billion budget. DHS is $23 billion of that budget and most of it goes to Medicaid, money for elderly, blind and disabled. There is a new program called the FoodShare program. These are folks who need a second chance. They need help/training. This program helps train them to do things we all take for granted.
They don’t know how to use computers or do a job interview. Simple communication skills. Most of them have a smart phone. The best way to communicate with them is through the smart phone.
3% unemployment rate in Wisconsin. Employers need workers. FoxConn will require a lot of workers. Evers wants to look at renegotiating the FoxConn contract. We will see people move to new jobs. We need people to do the jobs of custodian and food service.
Interpretive services are needed. Over 78,000 have expressed interest in the program. 29,000 people have received jobs because of the training they have received through this program.
