Rotary Clubs of Rochester Grant Updates
Volume 3 (spring, 2019)
Volume 2 (winter, 2019)
Volume 1 (fall, 2018)

The Rotary Clubs of Rochester are the sponsors for Growing Guatemala, a comprehensive nutrition intervention project involving education and family garden for families in Tecpan, Guatemala. The Project aim is to enroll 10 families a month (up to 140) to provide adequate attention to training and follow up with each family to help ensure sustainability of their garden and nutrition habits once the project is concluded.

Project Leads Andrea and Stephen provided this recent update:  "We have a total of 27 enrolled in the comparison community and 8 enrolled in the gardens community (35 total) although 2 of the 8 dropped out of the gardening program because of concerns about time. Last month in February, we had our first agriculture class. This month, we constructed 3 home gardens with families in Chutiestancia. Next month, we have another 3 to build. We spent a lot of time this month doing door-to-door monitoring and working together with the health posts and the madres guías (guide mothers, as they're called) to identify potentially eligible children. We believe that we have reached every child in Chutiestancia who would be elegible to participate in the program (more children will become eligible in a few months when they turn 6 months old). Our next steps are to continue with our planned nutrition and agriculture activities and to expand the program to nearby communities within San Andres Semetabaj".
