Rotary District 5960 Governor Elect, Ed Marek and 2013 District Governor Gary Campbell presented to the River Falls Rotary Club about the power of Rotary and the impact it has on the world. Gary is a long time member of the Anoka, MN Rotary club, former 2013 District 5960 Governor, and current 2016-2019 District Foundation Team Leader. Gary talked about the Rotary Foundation, the Paul Harris Society requirements and use of Club Paul Harris points.
Rotary District 5960 Governor Elect, Ed Marek and 2013 District Governor Gary Campbell presented to the River Falls Rotary Club about the power of Rotary and the impact it has on the world. Gary is a long time member of the Anoka, MN Rotary club, former 2013 District 5960 Governor, and current 2016-2019 District Foundation Team Leader. Gary talked about the Rotary Foundation, the Paul Harris Society requirements and use of Club Paul Harris points. He encouraged members to support the Foundation and think about where they would like to use points.
Our club's board has been talking about putting together a formal recommendation as to what we do with our points, according to Chris Blasius, president. We will be continuing that conversation, so if you feel passionate about how we should utilize the points available to our club, reach out to anyone on the board to make your suggestions heard.
"We do something good in the community and we inspire others to do something great," said Gary. The Rotary Foundation has contributed billions of dollars and thousands of hours to causes around the world, in six areas of focus:
- disease prevention and treatment
- water and sanitation
- maternal and child health
- basic education and literacy and
- economic and community development.
This is accomplished through programs like:
- PolioPlus - the world now has 70-80 cases remaining, and Nigeria will be certified polio free in Spring 2020. Gary noted that 10 years ago half the polio cases we saw were in Africa.
- District Grants - (under $24,000)
- Global Grants - (up to 250,000)
- Global scholars (currently three in the field)
- Peace Fellowships
The Rotary Foundation receives the top rating from Charity Navigator, which examines how fiscally responsible we are. We have scored 100% over the last 12 years.
