Annual Dictionary/Thesaurus Project.
Each year, members of our Club visit the 3rd graders in Stratford to deliver Dictionaries to each student and the 5th graders to deliver Thesauruses.
We like to send two Rotarians to each school, and you will have a lesson plan to share. We talk a little about the Rotary Club, what we do in our community and worldwide, and the 4 Way Test. Then we have some fun exploring the features of the dictionary and the thesaurus with the students. I have the following slots available for school visits (2 for each school). If you have not already signed up to attend one of these dates, email Sherri ASAP at sszymanski@stratfordlibrary.org to let her know which date you can help:

October's Happy Dollars will be going to Polio Plus
November's Happy Dollars will be going to Rotary International
Professor Kristen Huffman, executive artistic director of the New Paradigm Theater of Stratford, gave a great presentation. The theater's mission coincides with Rotary's values and mission, including the four-way test. We presented her with a $500 check to support education and growth in the arts for Stratford students.

Rotary Means Business is a new meeting group that connects professionals to help advance their needs while lending their talents to those who might need them. All are welcome, and it is an exciting new chapter for District 7980.
Four Way Speech Contest 2025-2026
District 7980 is pleased to announce the start of this year’s 4-Way Speech Contest. We encourage clubs to engage with its local high school and sponsor a local competition and send the winning student to the District Semi-Finals. The two top finishers from each semi-final will advance to the finals to be held in April. Details and dates will follow shortly.
This is an opportunity for the club to establish connections with your local high school administration. A good resource would be the high school debate club.
The speech is centered around the core values of Rotary as stated in the 4-way test:
Is it the Truth?
Is it Fair to all concerned?
Will it build Good Will and Better Friendship?
Will it be beneficial to all?
The club's cost to enter a student into the semi-finals 4-way speech contest is $150.00. There are cash prizes for the winner of the District event and the students selected to participate in the finals.

Students in grades 9-12 will qualify to participate. This one-day leadership training program will promote peace and honor service above self, and will be held this fall at Connecticut College. Any questions can be emailed to DGN Julia at jakus@conncoll.edu
This year‘s turkey delivery is scheduled for November 22, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. All Rotary members should go to Sterling House by 10 AM to pick up the turkeys and groceries to be delivered. This is an annual event in which Rotary supplies 140 turkeys to Sterling House for delivery on that day. The time commitment is usually 60-90 minutes. If you need any further information, don't hesitate to get in touch with Joe.
