Service Beyond Rotary:Rotarian Joe Myers continues his commitment to community service through several organizations. As a member of the Lions Club, Joe leads a Low Vision Support Group and Seminar at the Baldwin Center on the second Thursday of each month and participates in vision screenings throughout the Stratford school system—visiting elementary schools in October, November, and December; middle schools in January and February; and high schools in March and April. Joe is also a member of the Old Timers Athletic Association of Stratford.
Whether through Rotary, vision services, our schools, or local athletics, Joe demonstrates that community service extends far beyond any one organization—it's about finding ways to serve wherever you are needed.
Rotarian Joe Myers: A Special Place in History here
In this photo, Rotarian Joe Myers proudly displays an insignia known as the “Flash,” an important symbol of his service in the United States Army Special Forces—the Green Berets.
Joe shared with fellow Rotarians that when he served in 1966, Green Berets represented a relatively small and highly trained group of soldiers within the United States Army. The distinctive Green Beret and Flash were not simply parts of the uniform—they represented the specialized training, dedication, courage, and commitment required to serve as a member of Army Special Forces.
For those of us who know Joe today through Rotary and his many other community-service activities, this photo gives us an opportunity to learn about another important chapter of his life.
We are proud to recognize Rotarian Joe Myers for his service to our country as a United States Army Green Beret and for the spirit of service that he continues to demonstrate in our community today.

Rotarian Abigail Agathos is on the board of directors at the Boothe Memorial Railway Society. They are having their annual Trains at Twilight Event coming up on September 11, 2026.
Trains are run at night with lights on, smoke stacks going and horns blaring.
