The Play: "The Queen of Whitby"

For the eighth year in a row, the Rotary Club of Oshawa - Parkwood is hosting a charity dinner and theatre night at Class Act Dinner Theatre, 104 Consumers Drive, in Whitby, on Friday, November 7, 2014, it was announced, today, by Bob Koski, Past President of the Rotary Club and Chairman of the fundraising event.

The proceeds obtained for the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood will be used to support many community service projects such as: Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Senior Citizens, the Kids Safety Village of Durham Region, Participation House, Grandview Children’s Centre, Eastview Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, Simcoe Hall Settlement House, the YMCA, Mary Street School and many other services.

“The doors open at 5:45 pm and the buffet dinner is served from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm with the play starting around 8:00 pm and ending about 10:00 pm. We know that everyone will enjoy a night of laughter and good food and at the same time, help our Rotary Club make a real difference to people’s lives.” Mr. Koski said.

“Our fundraiser this year is the hilarious ‘The Queen of Whitby’ directed by David Lepp and featuring Fran Stecyk, Marion Reid-Clarke and Martin Kalin. When Mary MacDonald becomes bored with the Women’s Institute and the Ladies Auxiliary, she decides to start a special club of her own. In honour of her family’s Scottish roots, she forms an exclusive ladies-only group dedicated to all things Celtic and fun including Scones and Scotch. The Scots Bonnets are born and they immediately take the small town of Whitby by storm. But then a jealous husband, suspecting infidelity, decides to pose as a woman to join their group, and the fun begins! ”,  announced Mr. Koski.

This dinner and theatre night, recommended for adults, costs $65 per person and individual tax receipts for a portion of the ticket price will be available.

“We are very proud of our relationship with Rocky Varcoe, owner of Class Act and a Past President of the Whitby-Sunrise Rotary Club.  He has a tremendously talented, hardworking team around him.  Rocky has used Live Act to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities. We appreciate what Rocky has done for Durham Region and we thank him for his support.” Bob Koski added.
