The Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise would like to invite you to “Walk with Joe” on Friday October 21, 2016 and support The Push for Change

On May 1, 2016 in Saint John’s Newfoundland, Joe Roberts, a former homeless youth, began pushing a shopping cart across Canada.  His goal is to raise awareness and funds to prevent and support the end of youth homelessness. This national 9, 000 km trek will end on or about September 30, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia marking 17 months on the road for Joe and his team

The Push for Change aims to:

  • engage the country with the “possibility” of ending youth homelessness as we know it today;
  • discuss what we need to do to prevent, reduce and end youth homelessness;
  • create a country where vulnerable youth are supported at the crucial crossroads in their life, keeping them engaged in school and community and preventing them from becoming homeless;
  • raise money to support prevention models and local emergency services;
  • inspire a nation with the idea that anything is possible; and
  • engage the people in this country to take personal action to make a difference.

Joe will begin his walk at noon from the Bowmanville Zoo and travel west across Hwy 2 to Whitby.  He will walk at a pace of approximately 4 km per hour and pass the following crossroads in Bowmanville: 12:30pm – Scugog St., 1:00pm – Boswell Rd., 1:30pm - Rundell Rd., 2:00pm – Hancock Rd., and 2:30pm – Trulls Rd.   Members wishing to walk can join anywhere along the route.  If you are interested in participating please contact Terry Caputo via email at terrycaputo@sympatico.ca.

Best Regards,

Terry Caputo
