SUCCESS! A triumphant Patrick Klaassen (president of Paarl Rotary) shows off the prizes won by the club's floating duck, the fastest to take part in the race on the Eerste River at Spier. Proceeds of the event went to fighting gender-based violence.
Tommy Goliath (left), technician of the Paarl Valley Friends of the Disabled, was recently inaugurated as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Paarl in recognition of his many years of service repairing wheelchairs free of charge. With him is District Governor Anton Lubbe, who presented him with a certificate of merit.
MANDELA DAY. To mark Mandela Day, the Rotary Club of Paarl donated 67 packs of disposable nappies to the NorSA infant centre in Welington which cares for babies who are up for adoption. This symbolises the 67 minutes of service associated with Mandela Month. Paarl Rotarians were up at the crack of dawn to assist in driving the cars of the participants in the recent Race to the Sea cycle race from Villiersdorp to Hermanus. This outing added funds to the coffers of the club.
Unemployed people are supported by the Heart NPO who provide training and meals to assist those unable to find a job. Paarl Rotary recently distributed care packs at Heart’s Lighthouse Centre.
