There was a standing ovation and cheers all round at the conclusion of the Paarl Rotary Wine & Good Taste Auction which raised a record amount for charity projects with the assistance of celebrity auctioneer Dan Nicholl (far right).
Paarl Rotary’s Wine & Good Taste Auction made its comeback with a bang on 9 October. The auction, which was cancelled for two years due to the pandemic, was held at Laborie estate and closed with a dazzling bid of R100 000. This high offer was attracted by a lot sourced by RC Riebeeck Valley that included two Air Mauritius air tickets and 6 days for two people at the luxurious La Pirogue Sun Resort.
The turnover from the auction was more than R600 000, also the best return in the history of the auction, which was first launched 20 years ago to raise funds for Paarl Rotary projects. This year the proceeds go to three Rotary clubs: Paarl, Franschhoek Valley/Drakenstein and Riebeek Valley. The three clubs worked together to collect the donations of wine, hospitality and art items to be auctioned.
Celebrity TV host and auctioneer Dan Nicholl was at his witty best, keeping guests entertained and laughing throughout the day. A three-course luncheon was served, during which well-known accordionist Stanislav Anguelov entertained the guests.
The raffle was won by Morné van Zyl, and included two nights at the Century City Hotel, a cotton quilt from Linen Drawer and numerous top wines. The raffle tickets generated R23 000. We thank all the generous donors and bidders which made the day such a remarkable success.
