Rotarians have had a busy quarter, which included a number of sessions packing educational toys into the Eduboxes we are providing to schools, educares and other clients.

After some interruptions due to Covid, we welcomed all our members back to our weekly “live” meetings held at the local Bowling Club on Tuesdays at 13:00 in the Spring. Our speakers have continued to be of an extremely high standard and offering the most informative talks.  We, however, do miss those members that are busy at work, or ill at home and cannot attend.
PROJECTS
The Projects Committee continues to be hard at work and meets regularly. The following are a few projects we have focused on:
Donation from Wenhold Trust
We are extremely thankful and humbled by the donation of R100,000 received from the Wenhold Family Trust.  As per their request, R70,000 will be allocated to the Royalty Project and R30,000 to nature conservation of Paarl Mountain Reserve.  A letter of thanks and appreciation has been sent to the Wenhold Family.
Cycle Race
The Cycle Race Committee experienced a tough couple of months, not knowing whether the planned Winelands Cycle Race would in fact take place.  They never let their guard down, and in spite of the late approval by the “authorities” to allow the race in September, each committee member can be proud of an extremely successful race day despite very wet and cold weather. Of the approximately 900 entrants, 504 started, with approximately 400 crossing the finish line. My sincerely appreciation to each member who assisted to make it a memorable day.  We are looking forward to our next cycle race to be held on 30 January 2022.
A word of thanks, also to those who assisted with marshalling during the Cape Town Cycle Race.  It is greatly appreciated.
Wine Auction
Unfortunately, the wine auction that was planned for 10 October 2021 had to be cancelled, due to the current Covid situation.   We are currently scanning the horizon for a suitable venue for our next auction and will keep members informed as we progress.
Garden at Kerith Retreat
A successful tree-planting ceremony took place at Kerith Retreat for mental health.  Members and guests who attended had a most enjoyable afternoon.  Planning and hard work will continue on this major project. Thank you to our donors for the lemon trees and to Clive for the many hours he has sacrificed to make this dream come true.
Eduboxes
The interest in the Eduboxes are exceeding our wildest expectations.  Thank you to those who put the time aside to travel to Muldersvlei to assist with the huge task of packing the toys into the boxes.  We will continue accepting orders again during January 2022.
Food Caravan
After a long process, the food caravan has now been transferred into Eugene’s name and it can now be sold.  Anyone knowing of someone who might be interested in purchasing the caravan which can serve as food stall at events, may contact Eugene on 082 774 5720.
Riebeek Valley Rotary Club
It is with pride that Paarl Rotary could assist in launching the new club.  Those members who attended the launch function at Riebeek Kasteel will agree that it was a most successful event.  We wish the club everything of the best for the future and may they go from strength to strength.  A special word of thanks to Bryan for his pivotal role in this venture.
GENERAL
I wish each of you a peaceful festive season and may 2022 take us to new heights.
God bless until we meet again on 11 January. - President Hester
Among the many interesting guest speakers who visited Paarl Rotary over the past few months was Jan-Jan Joubert, well-known journalist and political commentator, seen here with President Hester.
