DANCING IN THE AISLES. Nearly 400 senior citizens attended the annual Rotary concert in the Paarl town hall. The Peter Vanne Band set feet tapping and had some even dancing in the aisles. The audience was entertained by local singer André Terblanche, the Mbekweni Marimba Band and the Paarl Boys’ High brass band and drum line, among others. The concert, transport, tea and refreshments were provided free of charge by the Paarl Rotary Club with the help of sponsors. For more photos of club activities, click on "Read More".

PROUD. A new sewerage system and a brand new palisade fence: these are among the contributions to a local youth centre that Paarl Rotarians recently showed off to visiting Rotary district governor Casper Kruger (front left). The Rotarians have assisted in the upgrading of the Path to Prosperity complex on a farm outside Paarl, which houses an educare and afterschool centre, with financial aid from Rotarians abroad. HELPFUL CYCLIST. Christian Frey (rear right), a German Rotarian and avid cyclist, travels to Cape Town every year for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. In his baggage was a bag full of slippers which was donated to needy senior residents at Rusthof old age home in Paarl. ROTARY ASSISTS. Paarl Rotary recently presented a wheelchair to Kevin Abrahams, a dialysis patient. The wheelchair was sourced from Rotary’s Wheelchair Foundation SA. With him are Rotarian Dave Moss (left) and Tommy Goliath, wheelchair technician, who helps to identify recipients in need of a wheelchair.
EDUBOX. Butterfly House in Paarl recently its 10th year of caring for vulnerable children. To celebrate the occasion, Paarl Rotary presented 10 boxes of educational toys. With some of the children are Jamie Paulse, programme coordinator, and Rotarian Deon Erasmus.
HOPE. The Paarl Rotary Club recently donated end-of-line factory clothing to the Island of Hope thrift shop in Breda Street, Paarl, obtained from Genuine Connection clothing factory. From left are Peter Williams (director of Island of Hope), Rotarians Chubby Howell, Abie Martin and Leon Serfontein, and Samora Mapungwa (co-director of Island of Hope). Unwanted clothing and household goods can be donated to the store, which helps to fund the nursery school and job training centre on site.

ASSISTANCE. Paarl Interactors and Junior Town Councillors assisted at the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour. Our Interactors were also involved in assisting at the Paarl Cycle Tour.

WIND EFFECT? Many local Rotarians assisted with marshalling at the Cape Town Cycle Tour in extremely windy conditions. According to one Paarlite, the wind was strong enough to wobble the buildings (at least that is what this photo taken in Rocklands Street seems to indicate).
