Paarl Rotary’s annual Rhodes Quality Winelands Cycle Race, a seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, was once again a great success, attracting 1800 entries.
The 102 km event in January started in Wellington, taking cyclists all the way to Riebeek Kasteel and back. There was also a shorter race of 52 km for less experienced riders.
The winner of the long race was Sascha Weber in a time of 2:23:51. The ladies’ winner was Daria Pravilova in a time of 2:34:31.
Rotarians were up at the crack of dawn to serve as race marshals and ensure that all cyclists were safe and hydrated in the hot weather. After the race, refreshments and a lucky draw were enjoyed by all. All proceeds go to Rotary projects.
