The annual Winelands charity auction luncheon of the Paarl Rotary Club, in conjunction with the clubs of Riebeek Valley and Franschhoek Valley, was once again a great success. About 180 guests attended the event in ideal spring weather, and celebrity auctioneer Dan Nicholl had guests in stitches all day with his humorous patter.
The auction is made possible by generous donations of wine, meal vouchers and hotel accommodation, among others.
A total of 36 lots combining wine and hospitality items came under his hammer, with the highest price of R110 000 being paid for a lot which contained a number of top wines and a six-day trip to Mauritius, including accommodation in a luxury resort hotel.
Rotarians hosted the tables while other members worked behind the scenes at registration and dispatch. Members of Good Company Interact Club were also roped in to assist successful bidders with the transport of their purchases to their cars.
A silent auction of paintings by local artists provided an added touch to the festive occasion.
The funds raised will allow the clubs to assist the needy through various local projects.
