Welcome to Meeting No. 129 of the Rotary eClub of Latitude 38

February is Rotary's Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month

President's Message

As we prepare for a new Rotary year commencing on 1 July 2018 I ask members to think about what they might contribute to the club. Perhaps you could put your name forward for a position on the club board. Positions which are available are:

President-elect

Secretary

Treasurer

Chair - Avenues of Service

Chair - Membership

Chair - Public Relations

Chair - Rotary Foundation

Chair - Club Administration

Webmaster

Plus two or three board positions

if you would like to contribute in this way I suggest you email incoming President, David Crouch at dccon@netspace.net.au.

Brian Norris has out together 129 online meetings to date plus other IT stuff and is probably looking for a rest as is Ian Sayers who has been Secretary and Treasurer for a couple of years.

So I ask you to think about it, talk to other club members and put your name forward.

Regards,

Deanne S.

President 2017-18

Rotary eClub Outback Australia is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together local leaders to take action in bettering the world through humanitarian service. We are local business leaders and community leaders who believe that no single action is too small, and no great idea is too big. We are part of an international family of over 1.2 million Rotary club members in over 180 countries, allowing us an unique opportunity to stretch our humanitarian reach to parts of the world far beyond. We are a little different to other Rotary Clubs around the world as we meet online every second Monday of the month. Other Material:

Rotary Centre for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution - The University of Queensland's Rotary Centre for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution is part of a global program to advance research, teaching, practical training and knowledge on issues of international relations, conflict resolution and peace-building. It offers a tailored Master's Degree in International Studies, aimed at potential world and community leaders, designed to have a practical effect on addressing international and regional conflicts. The Rotary Foundation’s decision to establish this unique program at The University of Queensland is recognition of the outstanding reputation of the Masters of International Studies programs within the School of Political Science and International Studies.

You don't have to be an expert to solve big problems - Driving in Johannesburg one day, Tapiwa Chiwewe noticed an enormous cloud of air pollution hanging over the city. He was curious and concerned but not an environmental expert -- so he did some research and discovered that nearly 14 percent of all deaths worldwide in 2012 were caused by household and ambient air pollution. With this knowledge and an urge to do something about it, Chiwewe and his colleagues developed a platform that uncovers trends in pollution and helps city planners make better decisions. "Sometimes just one fresh perspective, one new skill set, can make the conditions right for something remarkable to happen," Chiwewe says. "But you need to be bold enough to try."
