Welcome to Meeting No. 126 of the Rotary eClub of Latitude 38

E-WA at Margaret River January 2017

Rotary Eclub of Western Australia

January is Vocational Service Month

President's Message

This week we congratulate our Secretary and Treasurer, Ian Sayers, on his Order of Australia (OAM) award on Australia Day 2018. Ian received the award for his service to veterans and their families and to the community. This is well-deserved award and we celebrate it with Ian and Laurel his wife. Some may not know that Ian is a Past District Governor (District 9710 covering the ACT and southern NSW). He served as DG in 2002/2003. He has also been heavily involved in the RSL and Legacy. There are no doubt many of Ian's other community activities that I have missed. Once again, congratulations Ian!

I am also pleased to advise that we are close to having a President-elect for 2018-19. More about this soon.

Regards,

Deanne S.

President 2017-18

This week's meeting material

Featured eClub this week -

E-WA has a very effective tri-modal meeting process which includes three different types of get-together:
• We deal with club business during our Monday night gatherings on our Zoom video channel.
• We use an online group to formalise our decision process and enable members to collaborate and share information.
• Our team enjoys regular face-to-face social gatherings at different locations around Western Australia.
Participation in any of these events is optional and entirely voluntary.
Our members find ways to use diverse locations, and our online presence to help our local, and global communities.

Other Material:

Rotary Doing Good in Seattle - Large-scale “gleaning” helps Rotary in Seattle feed the hungry.

The Next Generation of African Architects and Designers - Christian Benimana wants to build a network of architects who can help Africa's booming cities flourish in sustainable, equitable ways -- balancing growth with values that are uniquely African. From Nigeria to Burkina Faso and beyond, he shares examples of architecture bringing communities together. A pan-African movement of architects, designers and engineers on the continent and in diaspora are learning from and inspiring each other, and Benimana invites us to imagine future African cities as the most resilient, socially inclusive places on earth.
