According to the city, last year alone, 69,729 volunteers collected 55,783 kilograms of litter at 1,428 cleanup events.

Every fall and spring, the City of Ottawa's 2021 Clean Up the Capital Program brings together communities, neighbors and friends to help keep Ottawa clean and green. With careful attention to Covid-19 restrictions for 6’ spacing between people, Stittsville Rotarians went to work on Saturday, October 9th, 2021 to collect garbage in the WJ Bell Rotary Peace Park and along the streets nearby. Community service projects with an environmental focus are important for the club members.
Since 1994 when this very successful campaign began, more than 1.4 million volunteers have participated in 23,000 cleanup projects throughout the city. As a result, an estimated 1,700,000 kilograms of waste has been removed from our public spaces.
Cleaning the Capital is great way for residents to foster community pride by cleaning up their parks, bus stops, woodlots, ravines, shorelines and pathways, while enjoying the outdoors and ensuring that Ottawa stays clean, green, and litter-free.
