Following the Rotary motto, Service Above Self, members take action to create lasting change across the globe, in their community, and in themselves.
Ché Weist was a guest speaker at Stittsville Rotary on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, and she gave an inspiring message about her experiences in the Rotary Club of Ottawa. An energetic and dedicated leader, Ché Weist was President of the Rotary Club of Ottawa in 2021-2022 when the club membership increased from 30 to 65 members. She has been quoted as saying: “We stood together as a strong team, helped people in need locally and abroad, and stayed focused on Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self.’
Ché credits the increase in membership to a basic philosophy of making members feel valued, and respected. She strongly believes members must have opportunity to provide input and actually see that input utilized in an action plan. New members are strongly encouraged to engage immediately by using their skills in a committee or work group project.
Ché spoke in detail about the club’s Parkdale Food Centre project, the Adventures in Citizenship program and Rotary Club of Ottawa’s Children's Foundation. They are all community service projects where the Rotarians can be seen to be “people of action” working hard to improve the quality of life for their community. www.rotaryottawa.com
